MARSA will participate in the BHP Tailings Challenge
We have gathered experiences and advances from the world of engineering, technology and academia, to present a disruptive solution and a circular economy business model, for the treatment and reuse of mining tailings.
MARSA is proud to have brought together a world-class multidisciplinary group of specialists in their fields, who accepted our invitation to jointly create a comprehensive solution for tailings management, which will generate economic value from mining waste, and will mean the incorporation of cutting edge innovation to contribute to the sustainable development of the industry.
We are mobilized as a team by the challenge of safeguarding the sustainability to which this industry has committed itself, promoting a circular economy that supports the responsible creation of value in the long term.
On the academic and science side, a team of teachers and researchers from the Polytechnic University of La Marche in Italy participates, who have worked on the development of new types of materials. In parallel, teachers and researchers from the University of Queens in Canada have joined this team, who will contribute with their specialization in the management and treatment of minerals and tailings.
The Italian group MATEC, manufacturer of special high pressure equipment for the treatment and separation of solids and liquids, such as deep cone thickeners and high capacity filter presses, collaborates with us in the development of solutions and technology for tailings management.
To provide a view of business integration with other industries, we have the participation of the company BITUMIX, of the French group Eurovía-VINCI, with a recognized track record in the production, application and development of infrastructure solutions using asphalt and concrete. Who, in alliance with the asphalt cement company Probisa, created the first Development and Research Center (CDI), the only one in Chile, to develop new asphalt mixtures under European sustainability standards, which allow meeting the current needs and demands in the fields of durability, cost, comfort and safety.
In the vision of the operational design of the solution that will be presented in this challenge, the national infrastructure construction company MYM (Maestranza y Mecanizados), a permanent collaborator of MARSA in the development and implementation of equipment and process plants, was invited to participate.
Marcelo Salas, CEO of MARSA, tells us “we are very excited to participate in this challenge, together with this great team of professionals who accompany us, contributing with innovation and sustainable technology, to create new business models in the development of our mining”.
